Focusing on reviews of stories from Rose all the way through to Last Christmas, Stuart Milne once again brings you his highly subjective opinions on the BBC's long running science fiction series.

Don't waste your money folks, there are far better books with "reviews" of Doctor Who episodes out there, by folks that actually LIKE Doctor Who and can write well. I've read better student essays than this book. I started reading with the 11th Doctor (because, my favorite) and was disappointed from the start because the author starts off saying he's bored with Matt Smith, before even starting the first review. It goes down from there, although he grudgingly praises him later. He doesn't like Amy, seems to maybe like Rory a little, but he absolutely hates River Song. No wait, it's Alex Kingston he hates! He says so! Oh, and he also hates Moffat. About the only thing he and I did agree on (for the most part) was the episode with Vincent Van Gogh, thus the ONE star. But he still didn't GET the monster's symbolism! Did I mention he HATES Moffat? Thinks there was no thought involved in the story arcs, and that Moffat was making it up as he went. An award winning writer making it up as he goes along? Now, I know there are lots of folks who don't care for some of the Moff's writings, but good grief! It's like he decided that he was going to hate everything from the start of the Moffat era, no matter what! This is a downer of a book, (he liked Vincent, but fell asleep watching it for the second time!) Couldn't be bothered to watch any extras or webisodes for content, missed key plot points while whining about plot holes....do I have to go on? It's not the fact that I disagree with almost everything he writes here, that's beside the point. He starts out writing about what he doesn't like, then goes on to complain! It's like he is constantly thinking...Meh, it's okay, but still hate River Song. Sorry, I can't believe this, I am writing a negative review. That's never happened before. I tried really hard to find something to like here, I MAY dip in and see what he thought of the other Doctors and Companions of the "modern era". Emphasize MAY. This is the first Kindle book I've bought that I regret buying. If you want a recommendation of which author to read for understanding "modern era" Doctor Who, get the ones by Graeme Burk. They are well written and insightful. Skip this one, and save your money.

Recommended for all fans of the Doctor!
Having reviewed Book 1 from Stuart's reviews on 50 (well, now 51) years of Doctor Who, I might as well review book 2.

I don't really have much to say that I haven't already said in my review of the classic era book. If you've read that review, you'll know that I like Stuart's reviews because he is unbiased, he judges every episode fairly and on their own merits (as opposed to multiple other "reviewers" who go out of their way to nitpick an episode to death, bash it because of who wrote it, judge it based on continuity, are more negative towards certain good episodes because they're getting tired with the show, or on the other hand the ones who are overly positive towards any and every aspect of the show), his reviews are well organised and most importantly he goes against the grain and gives his honest opinion as opposed to sticking with the general consensus.

The reviews are also very humorous so you don't get bored. The most entertaining parts of this book are easily his constant comments of Rose turning into a psycho stalker and his brutal, hilarious rant on The Crimson Horror.

If I'm going to criticise anything (and this is why I'm not giving it a perfect 5 stars like the other book) it would be that I think he gets some things wrong in a few of his reviews. For example, I think he misunderstood the message of the ending of The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (even if he does still make some very good points about why it's a bit overrated) misses some crucial details on River Song's backstory which would have made it less confusing.

(Doesn't stop me agreeing that Series 6 and River Song's backstory were both pathetic, ridiculous, convoluted piles of horse manure, but I still have to be a bit critical).

Otherwise, still a quality, entertaining read and his ranking of Doctor Who stories from worst to best is worth commending for the effort and thought behind it based on his reviews, and makes a lot of sense despite some episodes positions in the rankings being surprising based on his reviews (for example, you'd think Warriors Gate would be ranked a lot lower based on his utter disdain for it in the review) but the list is great nonetheless.

Highly recommended.
