This was my first Doctor Who audio adventure. Catherine Tate does a fantastic job reading the story and capturing the character's mannerisms. Her time with David Tennant was well spent and no one can do Donna Noble better than the actress who plays her. I felt the story fit in with the 10th doctor period pretty well and there wasn't any place where I said, the Doctor wouldn't have done or said that. The story itself was good till the end which left a little to be desired. It is common in these stories for the actual villain not to be revealed till the end. I found the end to be lacking as I didn't feel it lived up to the rest of the story that was being told. Overall this was a nice way to spend a two hour car trip.Tags : Doctor Who: The Forever Trap (No. 2) [Dan Abnett, Catherine Tate] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers.,Dan Abnett, Catherine Tate,Doctor Who: The Forever Trap (No. 2),BBC Books,1408406780,Science Fiction - Action & Adventure,Science Fiction - Time Travel,AUDIO,Fiction,Fiction Science Fiction Action & Adventure,Fiction Science Fiction Time Travel,Fiction-Science Fiction,FictionScience Fiction - Action & Adventure,Great BritainBritish Isles,Science Fiction
Doctor Who The Forever Trap No 2 Dan Abnett Catherine Tate 9781408406786 Books Reviews
The Forever Trap was incredibly fun adventurous and right on the spot with the characters and story. It was a classic Doctor and Donna adventure and was written exactly as they would be and as they are with a great plot making it irresistible...and me miss them even more than before...they need to make this into one of the Special Episodes of their travels unseen together for TV!!! I wanna see this on the screen live and with Catherine and David as the Doctor and Donna!!! Furthermore Catherine made this even more wonderful to listen to and so real!!!...Shes an amazing reader and extremely talented and funny making each character their own and great for the Doctor and Donna of course...bringing every bit of Donna back again!! And just loveee her voice and voiceover gifts!!! Woot!! This was and is a memorable experience and read!!! Keep writing and get Catherine and David to read together too!!! XD
I've listened to a few Doctor Who audiobooks and adventures, and this one is by far the most fun! Catherine Tate is a fantastic reader. She pulls off the Doctor quite well, and--of course--makes me laugh when she plays Donna.
The story itself is a typical Doctor Who story, both as a book and as an episode. I don't know if it was the writing or if it was Catherine Tate, but I could visualize this world better than other worlds presented in Doctor Who's written adventures. The play on viral ads, telemarketing, and how we only seem to reach machines when we need help was entertaining. The Doctor was very on character (I've read some that didn't strike me as very tenth doctor before, anyway--more of a generic sort of Doctor) and I loved Donna, as always.
The reading/audio was, like I mentioned before, fantastic. Catherine has a wide range of voices for different characters, different accents and styles that really make each character unique. She has a knack for pacing, too, so the story doesn't drawl on. On top of the great performance Catherine Tate gave during her read, the extra bits added flavor and depth! (Those extra bits, by the way, are sound effects.)
All in all, I will definitely be listening to this again!
Great entertainment if you like audio only stories. I purchase Doctor Who audio stories so that I can listen while at work and to entertain my kids as they fall asleep.
Product was on time, and undamaged.
I thought this particular story was very creative and entertaining. I am also a huge Catherine Tate fan. If you like audiobooks, and like Dr. Who, you'll like this.
I absolutely LOVED this audiobook. Catherine Tate is a fantastic narrator--her characterization for both Donna and the Doctor are spot-on, and her unique voices for the other characters are quite memorable. The dialogue (especially Donna's sass) would've probably had me rolling on the floor with laughter if I hadn't been driving while I listened to it. The story itself was coherent and held my attention throughout. It was fun, fast-paced, and chock full of all the elements of a good Doctor Who episode (I have, of course, mentally added it to Season 4). Easily one of my favorite Doctor Who stories, read by my favorite companion. Worth listening to again and again.
I was worried that this audio book was going to suck, since Doctor Who The Nemonite Invasion An Exclusive Audio Adventure which is also narrated by Catherine Tate was just a complete failure in my eyes. But to my delight, this was utterly awesome. Catherine Tate did a fantastic job narrating, unlike the performance she gave in Doctor Who The Nemonite Invasion An Exclusive Audio Adventure. The story is so Who-esque. All the characters are in characters (everyone assumes that the Doctor and Donna are "together"). The characters in the novel are memorable such as the old lady who lives down the hall from the Doctor and Donna and the elevator operator. The premise of the plot is something everyone in the day and age of the internet and email can appreciate spam mail. It's wonderful how the author took that simple annoying thing and made it into an amazing book. The ending was a bit "huh?" but I easily overlooked that by how awesome the rest of the novel was. This was a definite must-read (well, listen) Doctor-Donna novel.
