Karen Hawkins is an excellent writer. I recently discovered her and have purchased (through Amazon) as many of her books as I can find. She is witty, and her characters are well drawn. This one, the second in the Hurst Amulet series, was not as good as the first. Chasing after a blackmailer are a sea captain and an actress with a back story. They all meet up at a country inn. It should have been more fun. The writing was not as witty as her other books, and I felt like I was pushing myself page after page to finish it. Perhaps this was just an anomaly. Every writer has a book that he or she wishes had never got published.

Awesome read
Cannot wait to start. My mother liked the historical background in this Hurst Amulet series. She said Hawkins really develops her characters.
Favorite author. This is a one sitting read. This author, for me, gives me an escape from the daily grind.
Not Hawkin's best, but still a fun read. This author has a good sense of history and generally thinks of at least moderately viable story lines. This story line was not viable, but I still liked most of the characters, so it was still worth whatever I paid for the book.
Tsk. Tsk. A beautiful woman who only loves one man. A handsome man who has only loved one woman. Add in an Egyptian artifact, blackmail, danger and a well sprung coach. Will these two work through their problems?
I've read and enjoyed Karen Hawkins's previous MacLean series books, as well as the earlier Amhurst novels. I didn't quite like this book as much as I had liked the earlier books. I didn't quite connect with William and Marcail.

I do love the theme of lovers re-uniting, but it was hard to be excited about this pair, especially since they were the cause of their initial separation. What I did like, and which may have been part of my disconnection was the glimpses of couples from previous books and the sneak peeks into the upcoming books. And there wasn't much scandal as is implied in the title.

While I always enjoy Karen Hawkins's books, this one just didn't resonate with me. I do hope Robert's book will impress me. I'm looking forward to it!
